How to Start an Online Booster Club Fundraiser

A step-by-step plan for launching an online booster club fundraiser, from setting a clear goal and telling the team's story to promoting it through the season.

Booster clubs fund the things school athletics budgets often can’t: new uniforms, equipment, tournament travel and facility upgrades. Moving that fundraising online makes it easier for parents, alumni and local businesses to give, wherever they are. Here’s how to launch a booster club fundraiser that works.

1. Pick one specific, visible goal

“Support the boosters” is hard to rally around. “New uniforms for all 52 track and field athletes” is not. Choose a goal people can picture, then put a number on it.

Good booster goals are:

  • Concrete: uniforms, a pitching machine, a weight room rack, bus travel to regionals
  • Time-bound: tied to the start of a season or a tournament date
  • Explainable: you can show roughly where the money goes

2. Break it into milestones

Milestones make progress feel real. For a $6,000 uniform campaign you might set:

  1. $2,000: Practice gear ordered
  2. $4,000: Competition uniforms ordered
  3. $6,000: Warm-ups for every athlete

Each milestone is a reason to post an update and thank supporters.

3. Make sure the money goes to the right account

Donations should go to the booster club’s own account, not a coach’s or parent’s personal one. If your club doesn’t have one yet, set up a payment account such as Stripe in the club’s name. See our guide on accepting donations through Stripe.

4. Tell the team’s story

Your campaign page should answer three questions quickly: who is this for, what will it buy, and why does it matter? Include:

  • A strong team photo (with the right permissions)
  • A short message from the coach or a team captain
  • The goal, milestones and deadline
  • Simple preset donation amounts

5. Give it a permanent home

A post on social media disappears within days. A booster club fundraising website on your school’s domain gives every campaign a lasting page and a link you can put on flyers, programs and the scoreboard. It also builds a record of what your boosters have funded over the years.

6. Promote it all season

  • Share the link at the start of the season and after big games
  • Ask athletes’ families to share it with grandparents and relatives
  • Put a QR code on game programs and concession stand signs
  • Post an update each time you hit a milestone
  • Thank local businesses that give (with their permission)

7. Close the loop

When the goal is reached, show supporters the result: the team in the new uniforms, the equipment in use. That final update is what makes people give again next season.
